PI FACTS

ABOUT PI  Pi is the most studied number in mathematics. And that is for a good reason. The number pi is an integral part of many incredible creations including the Pyramids of Giza. Yes, that’s right. Here are the facts you will love about pi. 1. The  symbol for Pi  has been in use for over 250 years. The symbol was introduced by William Jones, an Anglo-Welsh philologist in 1706 and made popular by the mathematician Leonhard Euler. 2. Since the exact value of pi can never be calculated, we can never find the accurate area or circumference of a circle. 3. March 14 or 3/14 is celebrated as pi day because of the first 3.14 are the first digits of pi. Many math nerds around the world love celebrating this infinitely long, never-ending number. 4. The record for reciting the most number of decimal places of Pi was achieved by Rajveer Meena at VIT University, Vellore, India on 21 March 2015. He was able to recite 70,000 decimal places. To maintain the sanctity of...

TOP 2 BRILLIANT MATHEMATICIANS Math. It's one of those things that most people either love or hate. Those who fall on the hate side of things might still have nightmares of showing up for a high school math test unprepared, even years after graduation. Math is, by nature, an abstract subject, and it can be hard to wrap your head around it if you don't have a good teacher to guide you. But even if you don't count yourself a fan of mathematics, it's hard to argue that it hasn't been a vital factor in our rapid evolution as a society. We reached the moon because of math. Math allowed us to tease out the secrets of DNA, create and transmit electricity over hundreds of miles to power our homes and offices, and gave rise to computers and all that they do for the world. Without math, we'd still be living in caves getting eaten by cave tigers. Our history is rich with mathematicians who helped advance our collective understanding ...

Top 10 Indian Mathematicians and their Contributions Famous Mathematicians   Uncategorized   June 12, 2012  86 Comments It is no doubt that the world today is greatly indebted to the contributions made by Indian mathematicians. One of the most important contribution made by them was the introduction of decimal system as well as the invention of zero. Here are some the famous Indian mathematicians dating back from Indus Valley civilization and Vedas to Modern times. 1. Aryabhata Aryabhata  worked on the place value system using letters to signify numbers and stating qualities. He discovered the position of nine planets and stated that these planets revolve around the sun. He also stated the correct number of days in a year that is 365.  More on Aryabhata. 2. Brahmagupta The most significant contribution of  Brahmagupta  was the introduction of zero(0) to the mathematics which stood for “nothing”.  More on Brahmagupta. 3. Sri...

Ancient maths

Mathematics in Ancient India Indian mathematics emerged in the Indian subcontinent from 1200 BC until the end of the 18th century. In the classical period of Indian mathematics (400 AD to 1200 AD), important contributions were made by scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskara II. The decimal number system in use today was first recorded in Indian mathematics. Indian mathematicians made early contributions to the study of the concept of zero as a number, negative numbers, arithmetic, and algebra. In addition, trigonometry was further advanced in India, and, in particular, the modern definitions of sine and cosine were developed there. These mathematical concepts were transmitted to the Middle East, China, and Europe and led to further developments that now form the foundations of many areas of mathematics. Ancient and medieval Indian mathematical works, all composed in Sanskrit, usually consisted of a section of sutras in which a set of rules or problems were stated with ...
